“LIVING WATER”
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:37-38).
For a thousand years, since the time Solomon had built the temple, the Feast of Tabernacles and the Temple were tied together.
It was a seven day feast in the fall, with an offering of water each morning which was symbolic of prayer for much rain, so the soil would be ready for the spring planting.
A golden vessel was filled with water and carried above the priest head. The people carried palms and shouted and praised the Lord and finally the water was poured on the altar.
It was at this time Jesus said, believe in me and rivers of living water shall flow out of your innermost being.
The information I shall share with you in this message comes from many sources including the Word of God and a man that gave 20-years of research in the healing properties of water; Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj.
Dr. B was an internationally renowned researcher, author and advocate of the natural healing power of water.
He was born in Iran in 1931. He attended Fettes College in Scotland and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School of London University, where he studied under Sir Alexander Fleming, who shared the Nobel Prize for the discovery of penicillin.
When the Iranian Revolution broke out in 1979, Dr. B was placed in the infamous Evin Prison as a political prisoner for two years and seven months.
It was there he discovered the healing powers of water. One night, Dr. B had to treat a fellow prisoner with crippling peptic ulcer pain. With no medications at his disposal, Dr. B. gave him two glasses of water. The pain resided some but was still there after an hour. He gave him another glass of water. Within eight minutes, his pain disappeared. He was instructed to drink two glasses of water every three hours and he became absolutely pain free for his four remaining months in the prison.
Dr. B. successfully treated 3,000 fellow prisoners, many suffering from stress-induced diseases with water alone while in prison and proved that water alone can prevent and relieve many painful degenerative diseases.
We read in John four that Jesus left Judea and headed to Galilee. After many hours of travel, He passed through Samaria by Jacob’s well. He stopped to get a drink.
John 4: 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

Look at verse” 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
Why did Jesus compare himself to water? Because the most important commodity of life is water.
Let me give you ten very important facts both physically and spiritually about Jesus being the Water of Life.
1 - Physical water is the greatest asset to your body and spiritual water is the greatest benefit to your spirit.
The lack of water in your system dehydrates your cells and body. Most of you are dehydrated right were you sit and you don’t even know it.
Dr. B says, “I am a researcher. I have researched dehydration for the past 20 years. Most of our physical problems are associated with water dehydration.” What I discovered was the solution or cure to most of the diseases we have in our society is not a money maker, it is simply water.”
Spiritual: Most problems in our hearts and homes would be resolved without arguments, anger and frustration if we would simply bathe in the living water.
What Jesus told this woman was necessary for her salvation that her spirit may be saved. It is also fully applicable mentally to the saving of our souls (James 1:21) and physically to the health of our bodies.
2 - There is plenty of water on this planet. There are 325 million cubic miles of water on the earth. But only 1% is drinkable. 99% is too salty.
Spiritual: There are plenty of religions in this world but only one true religion and that is Christianity. The greatest percentage of religions in this world will disease you and spiritually destroy you.
If you drink salt water to quench your thirst, you will die of dehydration because it takes more water to digest the salt than the water you drink.
3 - The water on the earth must be replenished every day or the rivers and lakes would dry up.
Too little water brings draughts and sparks forest fires that burn uncontrollably.
Too much water at one time brings mud slides and flooding. They both bring death.
Spiritual: Man’s relationship with Christ must be refreshed daily or His spiritual life will be unbalanced. Life will be a mess.
4 – Every year 95,000 cubic miles of water is evaporated by the sun. Of the water that falls back on the land and rivers 24,000 cubic miles of that water is useable.
That means if the water on this planet were distributed evenly every person would receive 22,000 gallons of fresh water every day.
Spiritual: God offers more than enough grace to refresh your spirit, forgive your sins, and make you totally spiritually healthy if you would only drink.
There is also enough of God’s grace to take care of the many missionaries He calls to take His “living water” around the world, but people are spiritually dry and won’t go.
5 – Lack of a balance of water in your body causes dehydration.
To hydrates is to reestablish or maintain a correct fluid balance.
Dehydration is lack of moisture, water or a drying out of tissues.
Many folks think that symptoms of dehydration are dry mouth, weakness, dizziness and fatigue and that is part of dehydration.
But so often we give our body “salty waters” instead of “pure water” to take care of our “dehydration symptoms.”
*At first the “salty water” seems to quench our thirst but what we actually do is we satisfy our appetite without taking care of the problem, dehydration. What our body is truly thirsting for is water.
We will explain “salty water” in a few minutes.
What begins to transpire immediately after taking “salty water” is dehydration sets in but the larger symptoms may take months and years to become clearly noticeable. Those symptoms produce pain.
Spiritual: From a spiritual standpoint God calls us to worship Him in spirit and truth. When we do our lives are full of true love and joy and peace.
But, all too often people worship God in the flesh. They want something that taste good and makes them feel good for the moment. They want a convenient and comfortable religion.
They simply don’t take time to drink spiritual water. They don’t want to stop and pray and read the Bible.
They want to read what they like and live pretty much as they please and for years life seems grand and every thing is durable.
Then one day their home or heart is hit with pain and they have no idea why.
6 – The body needs 6 to 8 glasses of water (8 to 12 oz.) every day depending on your weight, to make it healthy and pure and to aid in cleaning it from many diseases.
Spiritual: Daily our spirits and minds are invaded with thoughts and situations that if not dealt with immediately by the truth of God’s word, His water, will breed sin that will eventually lead to great pain.
As water hydrates your cells and aids in cleansing poisons from your body so the water of God’s word refreshes your spirit and mind and leads you to think right and to confess sin and to make right decisions in life.
7 – Dehydration of the body over years will result in painful degenerative diseases including: asthma, arthritis, back pain, hypertension, depression, migraines, high blood pressure, angina, adult-onset diabetes, lupus and multiple sclerosis. (Dr. B)
Spiritual: The early symptoms of spiritual dehydration may not seem troubling but later in life they can become deadly.
Example: Lust, if not resolved can lead to adultery and marriage problems. This could cause guilt problems or physical problems such as many venereal diseases today. (Lust doesn’t just refer to the flesh but to money, positions, popularity).
Double mindedness will lead to deceit or perversion and eventually to being an outright liar. In time this can lead to different mental problems.
Pride will lead a judgmental spirit and to rebellion. This can lead to many legal problems
An unforgiving spirit will lead to bitterness and anger and hate. This to will cause physical and social problems
8 – Often when your head or back or any part of your body begins to hurt, drink two glasses of water. Most of the time your body is dehydrated and pain is a signal of dehydration. (Stress is a major cause of dehydration)
Spiritually: So often when a person is upset, angry, depressed, that person can get victory by simply taking time to bathe in God’s bath tub.
8 – Dr. B said, “Modern medicine has based its understanding that solid matter in the body is what regulates all functions of the body. I have experienced scientifically and through thousands of patients that water regulates all functions of the body including the solid matter.”
Spiritually: I agree with Dr. B because this is true spiritually.
Often, Christians think that when confronted with a problem they can control it by debating, arguing or manipulating it.
Some times in certain situation they think I will get even with that person or I will never speak to them again.
The answer is, hydrate your spiritual life with the water of God’s word. That means to correct the spiritual balance. If you are angry, upset, unloving, sad, you aren’t properly hydrated spiritually.
So often harsh words are said and people injured simply because we are spiritually dehydrated.
If you were spiritually hydrated you would discover that so many things you were going to “take care of” God will take care of, if you leave things alone and let God handle it.
9 - 75 % of our bodies are composed of water. The brain is 85% water. Cells are 75% water.
Just as it is essential to put 100% enzymes back into your body for your cells to rebuild themselves.
It is also a must that your body be fully hydrated with water for that function to take place properly.
It is water that energizes and activates the solid matter. It is water that flushes the kidney’s, the liver, the colon, the cells and hydrates the blood.
If you don’t take enough water, your body organs suffer and you will gradually feel pain and more pain till there are serious consequences.
“Lack of water is the cause of most diseases in the human body.”
Application: Worship is a very important part of the Christian’s life. Singing and praising and prayer are also important but the main instrument that balances the spiritual ph in our spiritual life is fulfilling our personal, daily need for God’s Water, yea God’s Word.
*Paul told the Church of Ephesus that in the physical marriage and the spiritual marriage we are committed too, it is to be made pure and holy only by water. Eph 5: 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
10 – This one is going to be tough, but listen: Tea, coffee, soft drinks (including diet drinks) and alcohol is a dehydration agent.
It is not a substitute for water. Water hydrates and cleanses your body. Tea, coffee, sodas and alcohol dehydrate the cells.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and alcohol are pleasure drinks.
The caffeine and sugars in most drinks give us an artificial lift only to drop us down lower after the caffeine or sugar has worn off.
And then, guess what? We have to have another drink, another cup of coffee or another glass of tea.
And all day long we are drinking, drinking, drinking and yet our body is never satisfied. It seems like we need one more cup of coffee or tea or one more soft drink today and then the next day we continue the same pattern. --We literally become addicted to the caffeine and sugar in our drinks and all they time we are dehydrating our bodies.
Spiritually: We are living in a day of “spiritual pleasure drinkers.”- Many Christians don’t care for the pure water of God’s word. -Many churches have gone to entertainment. -They have brought in bands and done away with the choirs. -They have added drama teams and done away worship reading and preaching of the Scriptures.
Preacher feels they must mix sermons as a man mixes his drinks. They have to taste good and give people a lift or they won’t come back.
Folks, We need to get back to enjoying fresh pure water. It is the best cleanser to your body and to your soul.
It should be refreshing to open the bible and read two, three, four chapters and pray. But all too often the best thing for us, God’s word, God’s water is not enough to satisfy us. We are addicted to “salty water.”
In Conclusion: Please remember that it takes years for your body to slowly dehydrate.
You will fill your medicine cabinets with aspirins and pain killers and decongestants when at your kitchen sink you can turn on a spigot and find a means to help cure 75% of your physical problems.
Over years, arthritis, back pain, cramps and many other problems occur simply because we lose our taste for water and we justify our lack of water by saying, “I get my water when I drink tea or cokes or coffee.”
For digestion, for a proper heart beat and for balanced blood pressure and to prevent migraine headaches drink water.
How?
- Every morning when you wake up drink a glass of water.
- If you drink a cup of coffee drink another glass of water in order to wash the caffeine out of your system.
- Caffeine dehydrates your cells by sucking water from them because of the chemical proprieties in coffee, tea, soft drinks.
- You have heard of people that get drunk and then they wake up with a hangover or a major headache. The reason for that is alcohol dehydrates the cells. And since the brain is 85% water, many of the cells have been dehydrated.
In our fifth message of Biblical medicine we dealt with stress. We saw all of the western diseases that people have due to stress from headaches to cancer.
Dr. B says, “When stress is high the best medication for the human body is water. But, the medical profession offers pill after pill. Why do we need water? Stress dehydrates the human body. Water hydrates and those cells quicker than any pill doctors have invented.
One lady complained to Dr. B of pains in her legs and joints and her inability to walk just a few hundred feet without pain. Dr. B told her to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. She said, “I do and yet I still have this pain.”
He said, “Tell me how you get your water?”
She said, “I drink 2 glasses of orange juice in the morning and 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.”
Orange juice isn’t water. A glass of orange juice has 5 teaspoons of sugar in it. The application is simple. It is this, ‘You wouldn’t wash your face in orange juice or take a bath in orange juice or coffee or tea, so why do you think you can wash the inside of your body with anything but fresh pure water?
I have discovered it works for me in every way. The pass three days have been long for me. I had a headache just this morning. I drank two glasses of water. In 20 minutes the headache was gone.
You can disagree with me but, you can’t disagree with Jesus
Look at what Jesus offers:
Jesus said in John 4:10, if you ask me I will give you living water.
That is in the present aorist tense. Spiritual water is a daily need.
In verse 14, “whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
That is in the future aorist tense and it means God’s water will satisfy us for eternity.
Look at the woman’s response:
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
Do you have pains in your heart? Do you have pains in your home? Drink from the living waters and drink deep and your pain will go away.
AN EXTRA NOTE ON CAFFEINE:
Sodas, teas, coffees and chocolates are full of caffeine.
I drink one cup of coffee a day in moderation and sometimes two. If you drink many cups a day and all day, please consider the following information I collected from a number of medical studies.
The Bible says nothing about coffee because it wasn’t discovered till around the Sixth century. It was first uses as a stimulant but soon became a passion because of the addicting affect it has as a drug.
Most a.m. coffee drinkers don't realize it, but their morning cups of coffee set their bodies up for a rollercoaster day of highs and lows, only to bottom out at the point of exhaustion.
Just a few hours after consumption, when the artificial high dies down, many people may reach for more coffee or something sugary to get another lift, leading to daily fluctuations in energy and alertness, and possibly to eventual chronic adrenal exhaustion.
One researcher wrote, “You don't have to explain your coffee addiction to me. I worked as an espresso barista for four years, so I know what it's like to drink coffee and espresso constantly. Throughout college, I drank about four espresso drinks a day and at times more.
I only slept two or three hours most nights, but once a week or so, I would completely crash and sleep for twelve or thirteen hours straight. Since I graduated from college, I've also graduated to only drinking one cup of coffee a day and sometimes none at all. I feel much better and now I even have a somewhat normal sleeping schedule.
You probably don't drink as much coffee as I drank, but just one caffeinated drink – whether it's a soft drink, caffeinated tea or coffee – will put your body on the caffeine rollercoaster.
When you consume caffeine, the drug begins its effects by initiating uncontrolled neuron firing in your brain. This excess neuron activity triggers your pituitary gland to secrete a hormone that tells your adrenal glands to produce adrenalin.
Adrenalin is what gives athletes that winning burst of energy and Good Samaritans the ability to rescue people by lifting cars.
Adrenalin is also the source of our "fight-or-flight" response, which enabled us to do impossible feats.
By stimulating your adrenal glands to produce adrenalin, caffeine puts your body in this "fight-or-flight" state, which is useless while you're just sitting at your desk. When this adrenal high wears off later, you feel the drop in terms of fatigue, irritability, headache, mood swings or confusion.
At this point, you may reach for another "hit" of caffeine, followed by another, and another and maybe even one more. If you constantly keep your body on a caffeine-high, you're constantly keeping your body in "flight-or-flight" mode which is very stressful.
In other words, caffeine affects your body just like any drug. You start taking it slowly, but as your body develops a tolerance to it, you need more and more to feel the same effects. Eventually, your body reaches a point where it can't be without it; otherwise, you will start to experience withdrawal symptoms.
